The Xperia X10 is Sony Ericsson's first Android product and it currently runs on version 1.6. We know the company has committed to release a firmware update that will give it Android 2.x, but according to a quote attributed to product manager Rikard Skogberg, the X10 won't get multitouch capabilities even after the software refresh. This comment was made on the company's official blog, with Skogberg stating "there's no multitouch in X10--and I also can confirm that it's not only related to SW (software) but also to HW (hardware)".
This seems to suggest the capacitive touchscreen on the X10 is incapable of detecting more than one point of contact. It would be unfortunate as Google has already enabled the feature natively, giving the browser, maps and gallery applications reverse pinch functionality to zoom. We have contacted Sony Ericsson for a confirmation and are awaiting a response.
Update: Sony Ericsson Asia has confirmed this. Here's the full statement:
"Yes, this is correct, as it relates to both software and hardware support from the phone. However, like he mentioned (see original comment), we will be working hard on other solutions, for instance, zooming, a feature which has been requested frequently. This will not compromise the user experience which focuses on our unique applications, such as Timescape and Mediascape."

It's still a minus in spite of their focusing on their unique applications, while other brands have the feature in their products. Plus would be good, while minus is minus...
This super duper hot phone will rock the world...and there is'nt any mobile phone with 100% performance and capabilities...so we should focus on the advantages and uniqueness of this phone...not on the disadvantages and weaknesses of this phone. SE Rocks.
