When was the last time you saw a Yashica camera?

So imagine our surprise when we saw a couple of new Yashicas lying around at the Imaging Expo Singapore. And these were not relics either. The star of the pile is the yet-to-be-announced 14-megapixel Yashica AV1400-HD. Yep, 14 megapixels. The largest we've yet seen on a compact camera.

According to the Singapore distributor, the AV1400-HD is expected to be available in the island Republic by end December. No pricing details as of press time.

Of the other Yashicas, we have a little more information. The Yashica EZ8032 and EZ7033 are two decently slim shooters, though we think a little polish is in order in terms of design.

The EZ8032 is an 8.2-megapixels cam with a 2.5-inch LCD and a thickness of 22mm. Shutter speed ranges from 1 to 1/1,500 sec with an aperture of F2.8-4.9.

The EZ7033 is a 7.2-megapixel camera with a 3-inch screen, 3x optical zoom and 18.5mm thick. Oddly, it has a maximum light sensitivity cap of ISO 400.

Both cameras are priced at S$584 and are now available in Singapore.

No thanks...14MP on a PNS camera? Asking for trouble. After all the false starts by most of the camera makes (except Fujifilm with fd50) I guess I will give Yashica a miss....

I love it when old companies comeback. Hopefully, the new cameras will be impressive. I'd buy one if it is, and hopefully they'll have good things to come.
