Looks like someone jumped the gun and listed the new Sony S-series Walkman for sale. Thankfully, the quick guys at SonyInsider spotted the new players on materiel.net, a French-based retailer.

The 8GB Sony NWZ-S544 and 16GB Sony NWZ-S545 are endowed with a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240-pixels (QVGA), 262k-color LCD screen and feature built-in stereo speakers on the front of the player to pump out the tunes (which reminds us of the Samsung YP-K5). Battery life is listed at 42 hours for audio playback and 6.5 hours with video.

Both players claim a drag-and-drop file transfer, which is nothing new, and also boasts compatibility with iTunes and Windows Media Player. Apart from MP3, WMA, and AAC support, it also features FM reception (with 30 presets).

The S-series Walkmans are capable of 30fps playback with the usual video formats like H264/AVC, MP4 and WMV. So we were wondering if this is simply an E440-series Walkman that has just been given two speakers on the front, or if it has much more to offer.

Of course, we'll wait until Sony has an official announcement before we jump to conclusions.
