Valentine's Day tech gifts for two

Now that we've got you started on thinking about Valentine's Day, it's time to think about the perfect present. And what's better than a Valentine's Day gift which your partner will really like? A Valentine's Day gift that you can use as well!

Besides using it together, these gifts can also help tide over the lonely days (and nights) when the both of you are apart. The only problem we foresee is that there may be disagreements over who gets to keep the present.

If your pockets aren't deep enough, look out for our wallet-friendly Valentine's Day gift ideas next week.

Lomography Valentine's Day limited-edition cameras

Lomography recently announced several limited-edition cameras for Valentine's Day which were inspired by the animal world, so it's natural--pun intended--that they made the list.

It may help to buy the appropriate film as well, and as a bonus, plan a photography outing with your partner to get used to shooting with it.

Geneva Sound System Model XS

When it was first announced, the Geneva Sound System Model XS struck us with its retro styling and Nintendo DS-inspired good looks (when closed). When opened up, the Model XS portable speaker looks like an old-school clock radio, but it boasts Bluetooth capabilities and line input as well.

Due to its size, the Geneva Sound System Model XS would be the perfect accompaniment if you're planning a romantic picnic with your other half. The red version fits right in with the Valentine's Day theme as well. Just make sure you have love songs on your playlist, instead of headbanging metal.

Price: From US$229

Xbox 360 with Kinect

A slight risk with the Xbox 360 with Kinect suggestion is that the male party may end up spending many sleepless nights playing Skyrim.

If your partner doesn't enjoy shoot-em-ups, avoid buying Call of Duty and the like. Titles such as Beautiful Katamari, Guitar Hero and Need for Speed are relatively easy to pick up and could be enjoyable for both parties.

We recommend Kinect games to get couch potatoes moving and some of them encourage teamwork as well. Unless one of you has taken an arrow to the knee, try Dance Central 2, Forza Motorsport 4 and Kinect Adventures.

Valentine: Gamer boys and girls
Price: US$520 for Xbox 360 250GB Kinect Holiday Bundle

Apple iPad 2

As a geekette myself, I find nothing more romantic than a couple hunched over an Apple iPad 2 together, watching a movie.

iOS apps such as FaceTime and Skype can be relationship saving tools for couples who spend long periods of time apart. You can also play games together (or against each other) such as Love Hunt, Scramble With Friends, and Touch Hockey 2.

You may also want to go with the 64GB versions, so that no future arguments will arise over storage space.

If you're buying this for a guy, we recommend throwing in the iCade, which converts the iPad into a pint-sized arcade cabinet/stand--complete with joystick and bundled games.

If it's a gift for a girl, she may appreciate you downloading female-friendly apps such as Tiny Tower, Bakery Story and Cut the Rope, and putting in her favorite songs and movies.

Valentine: Apple fanboys/fangirls
Price: From US$745 (without telco subsidies)

YikeBike

Although there's a pretty steep learning curve--as we can attest to--a YikeBike can be a practical Valentine's Day gift. You can work up quite a sweat, while minimizing your carbon footprint at the same time.

If you can afford it, we recommend buying two of these portable e-bikes to ride together. After all, it's still a cheaper--and greener--alternative to buying a car.
