Toshiba's 2005 notebook lineup

Toshiba has just announced the release of seven new notebooks--two Porteges, three Satellites and two Tecras--catered to SMB, home, education and enterprise users with 18 different configurations to choose from.

The Toshiba Portege S100 supports RAID to prevent accidental data loss.
It's features galore with the new Toshiba lineup. With the Portege S100, Toshiba stakes its claim as the world's first thin-and-light with RAID technology where data is duplicated and saved on two drives simultaneously. The only problem here is the optical drive needs to be replaced with the second hard disk. As for the Satellite R10, the notebook marks a new line of convertible tablet PCs which are made to be more affordable.

All use Intel's second-gen Centrino (formerly code-named Sonoma) except for the Portege M300 and Satellite R10. With Sonoma, Toshiba is still sticking with Nvidia to produce several laptops running on the new GeForce Go 6000 series. Among other features, we see a 6-in-1 card reader on two Satellites and one Tecra while the Tecra M3 even includes a DVI port.

Funny the M300 isn't a tablet PC like the M200 but hell, it sure looks good.
At the press launch, we were given a glimpse of Toshiba EasyGuard, a combination of hardware and software features to enhance data security and system protection to its notebooks. Among the features are shock protection with bumpers, spill-resistant keyboards, Execute Disable Bit capability to prevent viruses causing buffer overflow, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and a HDD protection system. However, each of the EasyGuard notebooks does not include every single feature, but rather blends a mixture of a few to suit the end user. The business notebooks--the Portege M300, S100, Tecra M3, S2 and Satellite R10--run on Toshiba EasyGuard.

All the notebooks come with 802.11b/g wireless LAN (except for the Portege M300 where you can opt for just the b standard) and all are due for release this month.
