Gigabyte T1028M Touch Note (Intel Atom N270 processor 1.6GHz; 1GB RAM)

Review Taiwan-based Gigabyte is better known for producing PC motherboards, and this attempt of theirs at penetrating the touchscreen tablet Netbook market has produced a feature-packed product. At S$999, the unit is value-for-money for those looking for a Netbook that also doubles as a convertible...

Gigabyte M1022M Booktop (Intel Atom N280 processor 1.66GHz; 1GB RAM)

Review On the surface, the Booktop seems to be just another Atom-based 10-inch minilaptop from a minor player. But while Gigabyte is better known for manufacturing mainboards than laptops, we were impressed that the M1022M managed to stand out from the crowd during our testing. In fact, it could be the...

Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (Intel Atom N280 Processor 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM)

Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (Intel Atom N280 Processor 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM)

Review The "v" in the Dell Mini 10v's name is seemingly there to indicate value for thrifty Netbook shoppers. The system is in many ways hard to distinguish from its more expensive cousin and is one of the better sub-S$700 Netbook packages we've seen. It does, however, lack the high-end...
Toshiba Satellite T135 (Pentium ULV SU2700 Processor 1.3GHz, 3GB RAM)

Toshiba Satellite T135 (Pentium ULV SU2700 Processor 1.3GHz, 3GB RAM)

Review Thin-and-light laptops may look similar, but they're not all made the same. It's a deceptive world out there, especially since many thin-and-lights trade performance for a stylishly slim chassis, all while marketing a mainstream look that suggests performance equal to other notebooks. The...

Will an Intel CULV chip be much slower than a C2D?

Features The price of a CULV-based (SU9400/7300 Dual Core 1.4/1.3 GHz) notebook with optical drive is significantly higher than a mainstream Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz-based laptop. Please tell me the performance hit I may have to take to opt for a sleek and sexy CULV notebook instead of mainstream notebook. I am willing to spend extra for true portability provided the performance is at least comparable to Dual Core T3200 if not Core 2 Duo.

I need to occasionally open medium-sized AutoCAD files, edit pictures in ACDSee, install Norton 2010, do office work , watch movies in DivX, use Skype and surf the Internet.  Read story »
