Step aside iPad, here comes the iPed, er, Apad

Yeah! China's hardworking cloners are at it again, and with a product name that doesn't mince facts that it's an audacious ripoff. Right on time, too, with Apple gearing its slate for an international rollout. According to a TBS news report, the iPed is now on sale for as low as US$105 in Shenzhen, China, home to the largest Foxconn plant which manufactures both the iPad and iPhone.

What's reportedly different is the weight (the lookalike is heavier), the use of an Intel chip under the hood, and Google's Android OS 1.5 to power the iPed. Whether proximity to the infamous factory means you're getting OEM parts that are almost as good as the real deal remains to be seen. However, the fact that the user manual lists instructions for an APad gets confusing and doesn't inspire confidence in the QC. Then again, some people are still loving their Ephone.
