Sony Ericsson rolls out new basic handsets

Coming in the wake of 3G Walkman phone, Sony Ericsson has again announced three new mobile phones targeting consumers with basic needs. Focusing on reliability and easy-to-use interface, the J220i, J230i and the Z300i nevertheless include enough features for those looking to personalize their handsets.

New additions to the J series, the J220i and J230i share similar features except that the latter includes a built-in FM radio. Users of the older J210i will have a sense of deja vu when looking at the J230i, as both models share a similar design although the newer model comes slightly larger and heavier. Customization is achieved through the use of Style-Up covers which allow the user to change the color of the phone depending on the wardrobe.

The Z300i is a clamshell phone which incorporates an external display. The default mode shows an analog clock, which changes during an incoming call to the caller's name or number. The phone color can be changed with different Style-Up covers. For a touch of femininity, the included Crystal Decor pack consists of stick-on crystals which, in poor light and after many bourbon cokes, make the handset look like a Chopard watch.

All handsets are dualband capable and are able to connect to the Internet via GPRS. Christmas shoppers can look out for the Z300i series. Unless you intend to give a very late holiday present, the J series is off Santa's list as this will be available only next year.
