Notebooks are getting cheaper... But not cheap enough. True bargain hunters wait for the annual SITEX show to scoop up the best portable deals.

Fujitsu LifeBook V1010 

Show price: S$1,388
Remarks: Possibly the cheapest model from the Japanese maker. This basic notebook has a generous three-year warranty as well. Buy it at the show and get a free upgrade to 3GB RAM, USB speakers and an optical mouse.
Specs: Pentium Dual-Core 1.86GHz; 1GB RAM; 160GB HDD; integrated graphics; DVD writer; 15.4-inch screen; Windows Vista Home Basic.

Fujitsu LifeBook S6510 

Show price: S$3,988
Remarks: This premium business portable is not for the budget-minded. However, the S6510 is exceptionally portable for a 14.1-inch machine and comes bundled with a port replicator. Buy it at the show and get a free upgrade to 2GB RAM, Hanns.G 19-inch LCD monitor, 160GB external harddisk and optical mouse.
Specs: Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz; 1GB RAM; 160GB HDD; integrated graphics; DVD writer; 14.1-inch screen; Windows Vista Business.

Fujitsu LifeBook U1010

Remarks: This UMPC from the Japanese maker was also the one of the first to use Intel's Ultra Mobile platform. However, it is now considered expensive with a short battery life in light of the newer UMPCs coming to the market. Buy it at the show and get a free extended battery, S$100 cash rebate, leather case, Lapmate bundle and optical mouse.
