Why can't I read my SDHC card?

Question

I have old SD card reader and it cannot read my newly bought 8GB SDHC card. What can I do about it?

Unfortunately, you will have to fork out for another card reader which can handle the SDHC format. The new standard was a response to the fact that older SD cards had a maximum capacity of 4GB, which is hardly enough considering the explosion of multimedia content. SDHC can handle up to 32GB and cards with that capacity are already in the market.

The next generation is SDXC, which has the potential to hold terabytes of data. Unfortunately, these are not compatible with SDHC or SD readers so you will still have to buy a new card reader in the future.
