CNET Networks Asia Pacific Announces Revamp of CNET Asia
Nov 22nd, 2005, CNET Networks Asia Pacific

CNET Networks Asia Pacific, the publisher of CNET Asia (www.cnetasia.com), has announced a major site revamp aimed at addressing the growing impact of technology on all aspects of life. The re-modeled CNET Asia is a robust digital resource where tech enthusiasts can learn about latest trends, buy with the best advice and live the digital lifestyle.

Kathy Teo, Managing Director of CNET Networks Asia Pacific, said of this initiative: “CNET Asia is now even more relevant across the spectrum of early adopters to the early majority of technology users. Content can be consumed with ease by the general buyer, while extending to a level that engages the sophisticated user. Covering that breadth of information consumption isn’t easy, and we are pleased with the result.”

The re-modeled CNET Asia is structured into three channels: Reviews, How-to and Downloads.

(1) Reviews: This channel houses CNET Asia’s signature product reviews. Unrivalled in their breadth of features, enhancements include:

  1. Search and compare – More accessible throughout the site, this functionality enables users to narrow down their product search options or instantly compare a brand against other popular and top-rated models.
  2. User ratings – This reveals the strong community voice behind many of CNET Asia’s product reviews. With the user ratings, CNET Asia members can login for instant access to rate a product or give their personal review.
  3. First looks from the lab – These are online Flash video product demonstrations available for selected reviews.
(2) How-to: This channel is newly created for users seeking to take their technology usage to a greater level. Content consists of:
  1. Insider Secrets – A collection of tips from end-user experts on getting the best out of their gadgets.
  2. Digital Home DIY – A library of help videos guiding users in setting up their digital homes for connectivity, entertainment and convergence.
  3. Ask CNET Asia – A repository of technical questions from users, with answers from the CNET Asia editorial team.
(3) Downloads: This channel now integrates Chinese language software downloads and includes search options that allow software listing by operating system or free/paid license type.

More enhancements and new features
(1) Blogging: CNET Asia is introducing the “Mobile Ojisan” blog – featuring the musings of an independent Tokyo-based observer who gives an eccentric but engaging view on the influence of technology in the most unexpected aspects of daily life.

(2) Gear envy: Instant polling on the hottest products, where users have their say of whether they “Like it” or “Don’t like it”. “The redesign takes our user engagement to a deeper level, while introducing more content to help personal technology buyers get the best out of their gadgets”, said Juniper Foo, Senior Editor. “Behind the scenes, this has laid a solid foundation for future enhancements to CNET Asia.”
