Samsung announces four cameras

It is reported online that Samsung is planning to add four new babies to its point-and-shoot lineup. As the date for Photokina draws nearer, we're beginning to see more and more tricks up the sleeves of manufacturers. For the Korean chaebol, cramming more resolution into its shooter seems to be the name of the game this time round.

The NV100HD is one 14.6 megapixel beast packaged in a stylish form. This makes the shooter the highest-resolution point-and-shoot available, besides the 13.6-megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-W300 from Sony. According to Engadget, Samsung is introducing SmartTouch 2.0 with a 3-inch touchscreen. This shooter is primed to build upon the success of the acclaimed NV24HD and will sport the same 3.6x optical zoom. The "HD" prefix means that this point-and-shoot is capable of recording HD-quality video clips.

The 10.2-megapixel NV9 features designs that hark back to the days of analog camera display. Instead of showing the remaining battery life and shots left on the LCD, it shows the relevant information on a mini dashboard (complete with fluctuating needles) on top of the camera. For playback, there is a 2.7-inch LCD on the rear. It has a 5x optical zoom to complete the package.

Also seen alongside are the SL310W and the SL201 (note: The cameras may not follow the same naming convention when they reach Asia). The former boasts a 13.6-megapixel sensor, 28mm wide-angle lens, 2.7-inch LCD and a host of user-friendly functions like Smile Shot and Blink Detection. The ultraslim SL201 has about the same kind of features except that its resolution is 10.2 megapixels.

As of press time, Samsung could not confirm the pricing and availability of these shooters. But it is stated online that they will be on shelves in September. We will update once there is more information.
