A good amateur camera with minor drawbacks

Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Widescreen. Easy to use. Optional Bluetooth Mic. Two zoom control options
Cons: Fiddly toggle zoom, 2GB recorded file limit, MPG files only
Opinion:
I used my SR100E for recording and creating DVDs of three amateur theatre productions of 45 mins to 2 hours duration.

The LCDs constant speed zoom controls were too fast for me so I reverted to the toggle zoom control just forward and right of the eyepiece. This offers variable speed but is small and tricky to control. A big ring zoom would have been preferable.

The biggest challenge is the 2GB file size limit. After 30 minutes of HiRes recording the camera closes the hard disk file and opens a new one to carry on. The files can later be stitched using software. The problem is that about one quarter second of recording is lost in the file changeover so a faultless recording is not possible. Superb DIGITAL Video and Image Quality

Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Handy and do away with the hassle of carrying memory media
Cons: 2.7" LCD might be too small for touch screen especially for big finger
Opinion:
I have a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder for 10 years and must say the the DCR-SR100E offer next best video quality than any other camcorders that i lay my hand on. The sound system was excellent when i did a recording on a street performer playing digital synthesizer. I like most without having to worry about running out of my Digital 8 tapes. The 3.3MPixel offer a true image colors that i found natural as compared with other brand.

Nice size and feel

Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: G sensor for HDD
Cons: Can be smaller
Opinion:
Sensor will prevent HDD from damage from accidental drop. Yet, camcorder continues recording, using buffer memory. Cool feature, ensures no lost of videos. Wish it was slightly cheaper though...
