Hannover, Germany--Samsung today launched a selection of new IT products targeted at both the business and consumer markets at CeBIT 2007.
The star of the launch is undoubtedly a new AIO printer that is tout by Samsung to be the smallest in the world. The CLX-2160N is a laser printer with a tiny footprint, roughly half the size of a similarly featured printer, but with additional perks such as one-touch ID copying. Another printer, the ML-4050N, a monochrome laser with a 9 seconds first page print time, and a top speed of 38ppm in A4, was also introduced at the show.
In an interview with Hyundae Shin, Vice President for Samsung's printing supplies team, he explained the fact that Samsung only has laser printers at CeBIT is that the Korean firm is pursuing laser printing technology for all its business and consumer printing products. In fact, he revealed that Samsung sees laser printing as a key technological driver for the Korean firm's printers, given what it believes is the lower cost per print and faster print speeds.
Along with the new hardware, Samsung also announced a new alliance with both Solution Printing Partners (SP3), a printing solutions company, and IBM. Forged with the intent of increasing Samsung's share of the business printing market, the partnership proposes to synergize Samsung's regional sales and support systems with SP3's printing solutions packages and IBM's Business Output Optimization and JScribe technology. Of course, such a print solution would undoubtedly place the Korean company on a direct warpath with Hewlett Packard's lucrative business printing business.
In a press release statement, Dr Jongwoo Park, President of Samsung's Digital Media Business, explained that the new alliance is part of Samsung's plans to surge into the B2B market on the back of both hardware and software combinations that can be crafted to fit the dissimilar needs of its customers. In fact, in a personal aside with Park Sang Jin, President and CEO of Samsung Southeast Asia and Oceania, he revealed that Samsung will gradually be moving towards the trend of launching hardware products paired with dedicated solutions instead of just standalone products.

To service consumers' display needs, Samsung also launched some new LCD monitors. The SyncMaster 961BG and the SyncMaster 961GW appeal with their glossy black veneer and double hinge stands, though the viewing angle is sub par (170 degrees versus the more common 178 degrees). These monitors will come standard with Samsung's screen optimization software; MagicRotation which rotates the screen according to the position of the text and MagicTune which is an automatic one-touch adjuster of brightness, contrast and resolution.
Building on its previous digital photo frame, the SPF-07N, the new SPH-72V is a 7-inch LCD screen with built-in WiFi to display photos from both a computer as well as Websites like Windows Live Space.
The Korean firm is also going eco-green with the 30-inch SyncMaster XL30, which does not use mercury and halogen components in its manufacturing process and features 123 percent color production for improved display fidelity.
On a separate note, Samsung showcased a concept monitor, the SyncMaster 940UX, which is capable of adding multiple monitors support without the need to install any additional graphics cards. The SyncMaster 940UX works by connecting (via USB) to a computer on top of existing monitors (connected via VGA and DVI) that are already connected to the graphics card.
So you can have three monitors in all, one more than your graphics card can support. However, the trump card of the 940UX is that an additional 940UX can be daisy-chained to the first one, up to six 940UXs in all.
Samsung expects the 940UX will be especially welcomed by multitasking laptop users who find the screen of the notebook to be too small.
