Brother unveils five LED printers
Brother today announced five LED printers, making the Japanese firm the first to have a full range of printers and multifunction machines using major printing technologies such as thermal, inkjet, laser and LED.
LED printing technology is not new, but it's not widely adopted due to restrictions in print resolution. However, more manufacturers are starting to employ this technology for its faster print speed. Also, fewer moving parts in the machines make them more reliable than laser printers.
How it works
Conventional laser printers scan the page line by line, using a complex setup involving mirrors and lenses which must be aligned properly. LED printers scan the whole page and flash the image on the printhead (or drum), making them a faster alternative.
The HL-3040CN and 3070CW are single-function color LED printers, and both offer a maximum print speed of up to 16 pages per minute (ppm). The compact footprints of the two machines make them suitable for home and small office use. The 3040CN is network-ready, while the 3070CW has an onboard Wi-Fi feature for sharing the printer among users.
For the professionals, Brother is offering the DCP-9010CN, MFC-9120CN and MFC-9320CW. These multifunction printers, too, have a maximum print speed of 16ppm, but come with a 35-page automatic document feeder (ADF). The MFC-9320CW is the most advanced model with print, copy, scan and fax functions plus wireless capabilities.
