Samsung beefs up its printer portfolio

By Damian Koh

Samsung today reinforced its resolution to become a major IT player in the region by showcasing the company's latest products, among them a whole range of printers.

A total of 11 laser, multifunction and compact photo printers were showcased at this afternoon's IT Roadshow. The spotlight was clearly on the CLP-300 and the CLX-3160FN, which Samsung touted as the world's smallest and lightest color laser and multifunctional printers, respectively.

The company is targeting to grow its IT business by at least 35 percent in Southeast Asia this year. More specifically, it wishes to expand its printer business in the B2B market where it currently holds the title of world's second-largest monochrome laser printer manufacturer, with HP leading the category.

The CLP-300, which was first unveiled at CES 2006 in Las Vegas, is slated for launch in October this year. According to Samsung, the CLP-300 has the smallest footprint in the color laser printer category and features the company's patented NO-NOIS technology which, as its name suggests, would suit quiet working environments.

 Did you know?
NO-NOIS stands for Non-orbiting Noiseless Optic Imaging System.

Besides the new hardware, Samsung also introduced several office management solutions aimed at helping its users work more effectively and efficiently. These initiatives include the Confidential Print which requires the consumer to key in a PIN (Personal Identification Number) before the print job will be released; SecuPrint which allows an administrator to track and control the printing activity of any document; and Print Audit which monitors the usage of printers in order for companies to manage their costs more effectively.
