Canon unleashes 13 new Pixma inkjets

Following the announcements of new Epson and HP printers in recent weeks, Canon has unveiled 13 new additions to its Pixma range of photo inkjets in Asia.

Of the new inkboxes showcased at the press launch in Japan last week, eight of them are single-function photo printers (iP1600, iP2200, iP4200, iP5200, iP5200R, iP6210D, iP6220D and iP6600D), while the rest are multifunction models (MP150, MP170, MP450, MP500 and MP800).

Canon Singapore has revised the price for the Pixma iP4200 from S$269 (US$198.05) to S$299 (US$220.14). The availability dates for the MP170 and MP150 have also been changed from Sep to Oct 2005.

Melvyn Ho, vice president of Canon Singapore, believes the new range of Pixma printers will "give consumers with varying printing needs more choices, more features and a better value".

All the printers are expected to be available over September and October.

Canon's first prototype camera was announced in 1934. It was branded under the name Kwanon and had a logo depicting a thousand-arm Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. While Kwanon was touted as the first 35mm focal plane shutter camera in Japan, it never made it to commercial production. A year later, the camera name was changed to Canon. The red logo we see today made its debut in 1955.
