Printing on-the-go isn't new. Yet, one thing most people often overlook is whether the portable photo printer supports battery packs so it can actually work without having to plug into an AC outlet. Canon has recently added the CP730 and the CP720 to its Selphy lineup of photo printers. You won't be able to tell the pair apart from afar since both look relatively similar. The main differences between both are that the CP730 sports a larger 2-inch color LCD and an optional battery pack.

The Selphy CP730 comes with an onboard memory card reader that supports most media formats save for xD-Picture Card where you'll need an adapter. We know the hassle of having to carry the USB cable on our trips and, apparently, so do the engineers at Canon. The CP730 hides a retractable USB cable that can be pulled out and connected to a PictBridge-enabled digital camera for direct printing.

Wireless connectivity on this machine includes infrared, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11b (only with the Digital IXUS Wireless) options. For Bluetooth and wireless LAN printing, you'll need to purchase additional adapters sold separately.

A 2-inch color LCD allows you to preview your shots. In addition, the CP730 comes also with automatic dynamic range correction which, according to Canon, analyzes image data and applies the optimal level of correction for higher color fidelity.

The CP730 has a footprint of 178 x 131 x 63mm, weighs 955g and is currently available at S$249 (US$179.28). If you don't mind a smaller 1.5-inch color LCD and no optional battery pack, the slightly smaller and lighter CP720 retails for S$199 (US$143.28).
