The bad: Not network ready; no media card slots.
The bottom line: The Canon PIXMA MP530 is a nearly ideal All-in-One for a small office. It just lacks networking and media card slots.

Great printer
Jan 2, 2007Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Easy set up. Works as advertised
Cons: Won't work in Mac classic mode with jumping through some hoops
Opinion:
To run in Mac classic mode, Mac user will have to install the LaserWriter 8 print driver and activate AppleTalk. Best printer I ever owned. It let me dump my old scanner, fax machine and copier. Let me free up a couple of USB ports. The one thing I miss is being able to check the ink level on my computer. You have to open the printer and ckeck the lights on the cartridges or wait for a warning message on the display.

Cons: Inks run dry fast
Opinion:
Does what it says on the box
Oct 5, 2006Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Good all rounder
Cons: Drinks the inks, build quality not up to MP700s & 800s but good for price
Opinion:
Had an MP790 which completely broke down exactly after one year (shorted main board) so replaced it with MP530. So far so good but still cautious about product quality after previous experience but found that there were no other brands that offered this kind of quality and flexibility for this money (plus cheaper consumables, though they've hiked the prices of cartridges up too, from the 3 and 6 series to the 5s and 8s)
We use it for both photo printing and office work - fast for b&w doc prints and great photo quality.
