Can't use refilled ink cartridge with Canon MX318
Sep 28, 2008 03:57 PM
I have found that the original PG40 ink cartridge for the Canon MX318 runs out very fast despite limited use. The usual answer to avoid the excessively expensive original cartridges is to refill them, however Canon seem to have found a way to prevent this being done with the MX318. If you refill the cartridge you find that the printer will not print incoming faxes. It simply stores the fax in memory until a new orginal cartridge is installed.Anyone know how to overcome this problem?
Decent & Affordable AIO Printer

Was comparing this with the Epson TX300 and HP C5380 at PC Show 2009 as a replacement for my Canon MPC190 which was having paper feed issues and lack of Vista support. The Epson (as always) had slightly better specs on paper while the HP had a colour LCD display for photo printing. However, the Epson only came with a 1 year carry-in warranty although HP's warranty was 2 years on-site compared to the Canon's 1 year on-site, 1 year carry-in.
Went with the Canon for its familiarity although I must say the print quality and response time is only so-so. Had problems setting up the fax function to work with my SingTel mio connection due to no fault of the printer though.
