CX5900 printer - scanning problem

I have recently bought a new Epson CX5900 printer. After setting it up, I could use it for printing but not scanning. When I tried to initiate scanning, there would be an error message showing the INTERFACE: Not connected and OPTION: Unknown. Printing would be affected as well until I restarted the printer. Reported the problem to the Singapore Epson Web site 2 weeks ago and sent an email reminder a week. However, there is still no response.Any suggestion to resolve this problem?
