Gadgets from movies we'd love to have

By Darius Chang

Who hasn't come out of a screening of Star Wars and secretly used their broom stick for some lightsaber action? Or seen the Neuralizer in Men in Black and wished for one so you can try different pickup lines with some hot model you met at the bar? While the fairer sex seems to be able to discern the body fat percentile of a fully dressed Matthew McConaughey, and the fashion set can spot a last season Prada shoe worn by Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde, the true techie's eyes are fixated on the latest fantastic gadgets on the silver screen.

But don't call us nerds. Heck, even the US Army has picked the brains of Hollywood directors and writers to forecast possible terrorist scenarios, while the Department of Homeland Security has turned to science fiction writers for advice on which high-tech projects to fund. We did a list of impossible gadgets back in 2007, but since then even imaginary technology has evolved. So while the following gadgets from some of the latest movies may seem like vaporware for now, don't be surprised if these start popping up on our Christmas lists in the very near future.

Men in Black The Matrix
Minority Report The Dark Knight
The Fifth Element Click
Back to the Future Star Wars
The Living Daylights Ultraviolet
