PC Show 2004: LCD panel deals

By Farihan Bahrin

LCDs have many benefits: They look classy, give you better images, and save desk space. Check out our top recommendations for affordable flatpanels you can get at this year's PC Show.

LG | Samsung

LG Electronics L1720 17-inch LCD
Star price: S$819
Retail price: S$799
Remarks: LG's 1720B is one of the more elegantly designed 17-inch LCDs at the PC Show. This anorexic model features a 25ms pixel-response time, analog RGB connectivity and runs at a native resolution of 1,280 x 1,024. Not bad for a sub-S$800 screen and when you purchase it at the PC Show, you'll get a free 128MB USB Flash drive worth S$90.

  LG Electronics L1920P 19-inch LCD
Star price: S$1,399
Retail price: S$1,599
Remarks: The newly-launched L1920P is the bigger brother of the L1720. Sporting the same good looks as its 17-inch sibling, the L1920P offers more in terms onscreen real-estate (19- versus 17-inch) and comes equipped with both analog and DVI inputs. Pricey it is but LG's bundling of a free MP3 player (worth S$170) sweetens the deal somewhat.

  Samsung SyncMaster 172X
Star price: S$929
Retail price: S$929
Remarks: The Samsung SyncMaster 172X offers a stylish, intelligent design and enough performance for the average user's gaming, movie-watching, and other needs. Buyers will also enjoy the company's generally solid warranty and service plus a free--gasp--vacuum cleaner worth S$199 for every unit purchased (promotion applies for all Samsung 17-inch and above LCDs). Let's hope that it's a Black & Decker!
