The Fujitsu LifeBook N6420 is not a pretty notebook but it will make a wonderful desktop replacement with its high-end specifications. It is affordable considering its advanced components. Gamers will also be delighted to know that this is a machine that can support mid-level gaming.

Upside:The Fujitsu LifeBook N6420’s high-end spcifications make it a powerful desktop replacement. Running on a Core 2 Duo T7400 process at 2.16GHz, the N6420 is a powerhouse. Users will love the 400GB hard drive on this notebook. The ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card can deliver high-definition graphics and video features, as well as 3D gaming. However, its performance may disappoint hardcore gamers.

The 17-inch widescreen is a reasonable size for a desktop replacement. With a Windows Media Center remote and receiver available, it provides users with more flexibility for their entertainment needs.

For security features, there is a fingerprint reader to protect users’ valuable data from landing in the wrong hands. Wireless LAN on the N6420 allows users to work or surf the Internet whenever and wherever they want. With the availability of five USB ports, one FireWire port and infrared connectivity, users can easily perform file transfers and more.

Downside: At 45.5mm thick and 4.7kg heavy, the N6420 is a brick. Users looking for portability should forget about getting this notebook as it will be literally a burden to lug around.

Many other high-end notebooks with a 17-inch screen have a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, causing the N6420’s resolution of 1,440 x 900 to pale in comparison.

Outlook: The Fujitsu LifeBook N6420 with its high-end specifications is a good replacement for desktops if you can overlook the weight. It is one of the cheaper notebooks with Windows XP Media Center Edition and delivers decent graphics and video features.
