The slimmer and lighter, the better. That seems to be what the market is targeting at these days. Thus, LG has come up with a 23mm-slim, 1.1kg notebook--the LG TX Express. Sleek and thin, coupled with the most common features of a notebook, the LG TX Express is the choice of basic users who require frequent travel and demand absolute mobility.

Upside:At only 23mm thin and 1.1kg with battery, the LG TX Express is one of the lightest and slimmest notebook in the market. Its 12.1-inch widescreen is one of the largest for its weight class. The ultraportability of this notebook is ideal for users who are always on the move. Protective features that are available on this lightweight notebook comprise the HDD protection system--G-Protector. Data on the hard drive of the TX Express is protected during a drop because the G-Protector detects unnatural acceleration and parks the harddisk reader arm to prevent scratches on the magnetic platter.

Availability of wireless LAN on the TX Express allows users to work or surf the Internet whenever and wherever they want. The three USB ports, FireWire port and Bluetooth connectivity provide ease of file transfer and more.

The Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 graphics card is rarely seen in an ultraportable notebook. Users will be delighted with the high-definition graphics and video features that the TX Express can deliver on this lightweight laptop.

With a one-year international warranty and two-year local warranty, users can feel assured that their TX Express is built to last.

Downside: LG TX Express is not a powerhouse, as it runs only on a Pentium M processor. Though the processor is just right for the basic user, the availability of Core Duo processors in the market makes this notebook unappealing to prospective buyers. At a 1.3GHz clockspeed, it is considered too slow for most users.

Its price tag of S$3,099 makes it expensive for a basic notebook despite this being an ultraportable with a discrete graphics card.

Outlook: The LG TX Express is ultraportable and sleek for mobile users. It has most features that a basic user will need for a lightweight notebook of this size. However, make sure your pockets are deep as this system is pricey for a platform that is three generations behind.
