HP unveils two new business laptops

By Reuben Lee

HP Mini 5101
HP today announced two new laptops for business users. The 4310s, which is the latest addition to the new ProBook series first introduced in April this year, targets mobile professionals and small to midsized businesses. The Mini 5101 is HP's top-of-the-line Netbook aimed squarely at on-the-go professionals.

What makes the Mini 5101 different from HP's earlier Netbooks is really the whole concept behind the machine. While it incorporates many of the distinctive features found on previous Minis such as HP DuraKeys, 95 percent QWERTY keyboard and full metal chassis, the 5101 also offers business user-focused specifications. These include HP 3D DriveGuard which protects the HDD from sudden drops or movements. There is also the HP QuickSync software for synchronizing emails, Internet Favorites and files between two PCs. The Mini 5101 comes in various configuration options, from LED-backlit HD display and 128GB SSD to Bluetooth and WWAN (3G).

HP ProBook 4310s
The 4310s is the first 13.3-inch laptop in the ProBook range. Like the earlier ProBook 4410s (14-inch), 4510s (15.6-inch) and 4710s (17.3-inch), this latest addition features a high level of configurability as well as proprietary business tools such as HP QuickLook 2, HP SpareKey and HP File Sanitizer.

According to the US company, new accessories for use with the 5101 and 4310s will be introduced in August. These include a USB 2.0 port replicator (US$79) for the ProBook and a neoprene slip case (US$29) for the Mini.

In Asia, the 5101 (black) is expected in stores from early August, with prices starting at US$599, while the 4310s (black) will debut earlier in late July with a starting price of US$749. The 4310s with merlot finish will come at a slight premium. It will be priced from US$799, though HP has mentioned that the specifications for the merlot version will be slightly different.
