How to select the right HP laptop
IntroductionEstablished in 1939 by university classmates Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, the US technology company has become one of the major players in the IT industry. For the last few years it ranks consistently in the top three PC makers alongside Dell and Acer, cementing its position as one of the most popular brands in the IT market. So how did HP achieve this? While Acer probably has cheaper models, HP valueadds by investing in enhancing the design (HP Imprint) and user interface (HP QuickPlay). The US maker also has a wide range of offerings for almost every market segment (it absorbed Compaq in 2002 and used this brand for its value line) and has managed to score several firsts in the laptop industry. For example, the HP Mini-Note is the only subportable to sport a full ExpressCard/54 slot and an aluminum chassis. The HP EliteBook 6930p is also reknown for its claimed 24 hours of battery life (with an extended cell). The Pavilion tx1000 series delivered the first convertible tablet PC with an entertainment focus, while the latest addition to the family, the TouchSmart tx2, went one up by incorporating multitouch technology to its screen. However, in the coming year it will face stiff competition from Dell which has been steadily increasing its product lines with new Inspiron, Studio, Studio XPS and XPS models.
