OS X vs Vista

Performance

We find our protagonists standing toe-to-toe, fury burning in their eyes; the maiden having fainted in terror. Baron Vista's loss in the battle for security leads him to challenge Count OS X to hand-to-hand combat. Fists will fly, noses will be broken and locals will gawk in wonder as our heroes trade blows. Who is faster? Who is stronger?

It isn't immediately obvious who has the performance advantage. Count OS X used to be rather unfit in days gone by, partly because of his fondness for the PowerPC processor. He's since cleaned up his act and adopted the healthier Intel processor favored by the Baron. This makes our combatants evenly matched.

Will Count OS X prove to be more of a lover than a fighter? Would he rather compose a sonnet for the affections of the maiden than resort to fisticuffs? Or is Vista just a big ungainly blunderbuss who couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag? We like seeing people hurt themselves more than we like poetry--let's see what happens when they trade blows.

Count OS X puts up a good fight, but is pummeled mercilessly. Dizzy with pain and barely able to see Baron Vista wooing an impressed maiden, the count ponders why he was beaten. Both have lightning fists and quick responses.

We can find a winner even without resorting to talk of clock cycles and gigaflops. PCs are definitely the place to go if you want the latest technology.

PCs were privileged to the first Intel Core and Core 2 Duo CPUs, they've had access to high-speed wireless 802.11n wireless for some time, not to mention high-capacity Blu-ray and HD DVD drives.

OS X is no shrinking violet--it excels in disciplines like video encoding and image processing, and can help you render a 3D necklace of posies really quickly.

Vista is arguably just as good at such floppish tasks, but has superior gaming abilities. Frag-happy mouse jockies are better off with a Windows PC because all the best graphics cards and games are released there before they're released for OS X. Vista looks set to extend its lead in this area even further with forthcoming DirectX 10 games.

Baron Vista takes the win.

Score: Mac OS X-1, Windows Vista-1

I am a comfortable user of both platforms, having been entirely "Mac" or entirely "windows" at various times of my life. But, I must say, I can't entirely agree with this, humorous, albeit misdirected scenario. Misdirected you say? Yes, while one can't ignore the impact of the "market share" that Windows has, saying that it wins largely because there are more copies of it out there and therefore more software available is an artifact of a (possibly) bad decision made by Apple more than a decade ago. My controlling the makers of their hardware, the hardware was much better than the majority of boxes that people used to load Windows on, but they lost the market share war. Would you say that a Honda Accord is a better car than a BMW 750, because there are more of them on the road? I dare say that if the die had not been cast in the mid-nineties, and people were able to have equal access to software between the 2 systems, Mac would rule the roost, because all other things being equal, it is a better machine.

There isn’t a single operating system on this planet that can surpass Vista when it comes to the number of tech buffs who antagonized it. There's a reason for that. After seeing Vista for the first time last year (launched in the Philippines sometime in January 2007), I was somewhat disappointed to see that it didn’t look so impressive after aeons of extensive development. But I thought it was quite cool and striking with an improved interface and definitely clear fun to play around with as compared to XP.

Vista is fun but it’s not perfect. I think its a copycat preposterous version of Mac OS X. It has actually done away with the cartoon-like look of the XP family and replaces it with an graphically intensive interface that does like a Mac. For the gazillions who are not really familiar with Mac graphical display formats, Vista’s eye-catching spectacle is a clear winner.

But for the Mac user’s point of view, the similarities are quite striking notably the translucent windows. Compare Mac’s Spotlight and Vista’s Browser, Mac’s Dashboard with Widgets and Vista’s Sidebar with Gadgets, and Mac’s iCal with Vista’s Calendar. The cool 3D flipping swooshing effect of Vista's Aero with thumbnail display, the new incarnation of the Alt-Tab command when you switch from one window to another lets you stack and flip windows like deck cards. I think its Vista's version of the OS X's Cover Flow.

Although I prefer using the Leopard, I'm using Windows just because I'm forced to use it. I really can't live without Vista or XP with a vast number of devices, apps and Web sites clutched to my job that can only run on Windows.

WIndows Vista is good...But I can say with dstoti, the "better machine" Mac runs the OS X.

To the author of this article.....you're seriously (and probably rooted) in geekland....This article is somewhat a pathetic attempt to sound interesting...

The adage stands, I'm afraid... "Once you go Mac....you never go Mac". Please try to sound more interesting in your future articles....

I have used both Vista and OS X for the past few years.

Vista ---> You get tonnes of softwares and easily runs games of any genre. And, i still use it for one reason -> being, all the other people in my Business use this. If i have to send a word doc, i cant send it using iwork's Pages 09. VISTA doesnt read it. Agree that there are few paid apps to convert, yet how many are willing to do that in INDIA...???
And, Vista is HACKER's Fav. So you get tonnes of Virus. A Big Blow..! !

OS X ---> Just upgraded to Snow Loepard. Tell you what.. I cant get my hand out of this OS X. My, MBP is just HOT as an actress. Sexyy.. Wanna get a costly Date??? Buy Macs.
Agree that it takes time to shift from Vista to Os X and understand. But once you are used to it Vista is out of your mind.
Now, i browse hell Lot on net. So, on MBP i dont even have an Anti-Virus but all fire Walls blocked. Trust me Since i got my MacBook Pro i never restarted it because of an issues ( Which is a daily procedure on Vista )
STABILITY- Wow.. You never get better stability.

My Word is both are very Good. Yet, OS X has the edge.
