Notebook Price Watch

By Darius Chang

September 22, 2006

Buying a notebook is not an easy proposition. Compromising on portability and performance, deciding between a premium and value-for-money brand are all considerations which may burn up more than a few brain cells. Add to that the price differences of the same portable between stores and one feels that a degree in shopping may be in order. But despair not as CNET Asia has done the legwork for you, scouting around Sim Lim Square for the best deals as well as recommending suitable models for any computing need and budget.

CHANGES :
The six-month-old Core Duo chip may be upstaged by the latest Core 2 Duo processor, but it's feeling no heat over being made redundant in the near future. Refreshing current models to the new platform is often a slow but steady process, with Dell switching only two lines, the Inspiron 9400 and XPS M1210, to the new processor. Lenovo has also announced the upgrade of its Lenovo 3000 N100 unit to the Core 2 Duo chip. Acer, however, is moving full force into the change, with TravelMate 3293WXMi, Aspire 5593WXMi and Aspire 5583WXMi hopping on the Core 2 Duo train.
