CNETAsia @ IDF Taiwan: Highlights
Mention the words "Intel Developer Forum" or "IDF" and the first things that immediately come to mind are CPU processors and motherboard chipsets. These days, it's more than just CPUs and chipsets. At the recent IDF in Taipei, exhibitors unveiled working samples of commercial solutions based on the ExpressCard interface, which is the successor to the PCMCIA or PC Card slot. Some vendors also demonstrated prototype devices using the upcoming Wireless USB technology.
Meanwhile, Intel showcased several sample products running on the new dual-core processors, most of which have already been reported in the San Francisco IDF held earlier in March. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker also announced the launch of the Intel 854 chipset, a platform targeted for use in consumer electronic devices. What's IDF?
Intel Developer Forums (or IDFs) have traditionally been events for the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip giant to showcase its latest technological developments in the PC industry. In many cases, these new technologies also offer consumers a glimpse of what's to come in the near future. The IDF is held twice every year in different parts of the world, including Ukraine, China, Japan, the US and Taiwan.
