Service center dependent
Aug 1, 2009Rating: 2 out of 10 (Terrible)
Pros: Good Resolution LED display i.e. basically LCD which uses LED for backlighting instead of flourescent lighting from tubes for backlighting LCD pannel. Spacious keyboad.
Cons: It is very hard to upgrade or repair at own.
Opinion:
Back side of Laptop is made up of single cover & don't have separate casing / screw for removing hard disk or installing RAM or replacing DVD drive . One has to remove whole cover & for this side lock make break. If after warranty if you RAM needs replacement or DVD Drive malfunction then you will have to definitely approach to service center. i.e. even for small issue one has to depend on service center.
Probook Merlot special edition is quite the perfect laptop imo, i cant fault it.

Pros: non-reflective hd LED screen, great design and spaced out keyboard, low fan noise, NO overheating, portable with only 2.2kg and 14 inch, cooling fan blows out from side not bottom, good sound and dedicated graphics for a business notebook, winXP option, good battery life w energy star, 4 usb ports, easy HP wireless and bluetooth connect/disconnect, pretty system lights, merlot edition came with 500GB HDD and 3mb ram and beautiful matt wine color, and still $500 less than my budget.
Cons: this is the right processor for normal work and play and media, not intensive 3d gaming / graphics rendering. Do choose winXP option with 3mb ram not vista.
Opinion:
I bought the merlot special edition with 3GB ram, 500GB HDD, winXP, and i cant imagine anyone being unhappy with this probook.
Read the long list of 'Pros' above.
I got it for working with software programming and playing final fantasys. It performs very well for both. Although it was meant to be a business notebook not the entertainment series, it also has great multimedia performance too. (unless you want the latest 3D gaming ofc.)
Now i'll say why, imo, this probook outshines $500 higher cost laptops from other brands.
1. HP Probook has an awesome non reflective hd LED screen, not a super reflective LCD or led-backlit LCD like every other HP/Asus (and most other brand) laptops.
2. It has a beautiful matt finish that doesnt attract fingerprints unlike many other glossy black laptops esp the new asus and pavilions.
3. Although it isnt a entertainment series laptop, its dedicated graphics card/ram/processor is ... Read more
