An OK Laptop
Apr 16, 2008Rating: 4 out of 10 (Mediocre)
Pros: Above average perfomence
Cons: A Laptop not meant for Lap
Opinion:
I Like this laptop but the main problem is that the intake of the CPU fan sits right over your left thigh when you use it as an lap-top - "literally". In winters it works as an heater but in summers if you keep it on your lap and try to work - YOUR LEFT THIGH GONNA ROAST because your leg blocks the intake for the CPU fan which makes the laptop very very hot. Simply considering the Indian weather condition - CARRY A FOLDING TABLE. Toshiba should still try the CPU fan configuration like in the A50 series where the CPU fan intake is at the rear left corner.

Pros: Good Performance-Price Ratio, Good Battery Life
Cons: None
Opinion:
I have the New Zealand model (a100-803), it has a GeForce go 7300 rather than a ATI chip, I get better battery life than my old Pentium M Toshiba (3:45(A100) compared to 2:30(M50)), that used the same battery. I think Toshiba needs to change its whole line to Nvidia cards as they don't seem to use as much power as an equivalent ATI card.

Pros: Build is the best I've seen in the dozen notebooks I have owned. Touchpad is class leading.
Cons: None yet
Opinion:
I have owned Toshibas before and they were only average but this A100 is a class ahead. I have a T60 for work and the A100 is better all around and the build quality is superior. The audio is very good and I love having a DVD RAM drive. The dual function touchpad is very functional and innovative. The blue indicator lights add class and the LHS quick start buttons work well. I can't fault this notebook and find myself using it in prefernce to my T60 for work and my Asus for play.
