Performance And Battery Life
The LW25 is meant to be a general use laptop, and as such it lacks biometric security features for the road warrior or power graphics for the gamer. Our review unit came with a Core Duo 1.83GHz processor with 512MB of memory. As with most Centrino thin-and-lights, the vanilla Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is used. Its 3Dmark05 score of 465 means the LW25 is able to render beautiful slideshows of the latest games, but not retain much interactivity in them. Users looking for a gaming experience could consider the Sony Vaio VGN-SZ18GP which touts an Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 chip on a similar chassis, but be prepared to fork out more for the privilege.

The MobileMark05 rating of 183 is surprisingly dismal, losing out to the Asus W5F as well as the Toshiba Portege M500 which have lower-rated processors.

While the battery benchmark was a decent 3 hours 42 minutes, turning off the multimedia bells and whistles running in the background could yield up to an extra hour. Commendable is the BatteryMiser utility, which actively switched between power usage levels, such as screen brightness, based on the level of user input. This aggressive power management brings really impressive anecdotal results, but can be distracting with the utility playing havoc with display brightness. Fortunately the enthusiasm of the application can be turned down.

Service And Support
LG notebooks come with a one-year international warranty with an option to extend the coverage for an additional two years of local support. On its support Web site, you can download user manuals and device drivers. However, there is no knowledge database or comprehensive FAQ for self-diagnosis. There is also no telephone technical support and only a hotline number is given for basic enquiries. In case of hardware failure, the unit should be brought to a service center for repair. It is unfortunate that the number of service centers, of which there's only one location in Singapore, is found lacking. Overall, there is much room for improvement when it comes to LG's technical support.
