Good Gpec, Great Looking, A Few Minor Faults.
Nov 3, 2008Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Small & Light, Looks Very Cool, Excellent Build Quality.
Cons: No Internal Bluetooth Option, Keyboard A Bit 'Spongy', Intel Graphics, 5400rpm Hard-drive
Opinion:
I bought one of these back in March 2008 while I was on holiday in Hong Kong. It's a great laptop, small, light, good looks, decent processor. I upgraded to 3GB RAM as 1Gb is not enough for the type of work I do (especially with Vista). Build quality is very good, it feels solid, hinges on the lid are nice and tight. Screen is very bright and easy to see in sunlight.
I was in a bit of a rush when I bought it and didn't check for internal bluetooth, when I phoned Toshiba i found out there was no optional internal bluetooth module which is a shame - I feel bluetooth should simply be standard these days - but it's no big deal, I don't use it much and I just plug in a usb module when I need it.
A couple of other points to note:
1. The 5400rpm drive is a little slow ... Read more
Worst experience ever
Sep 26, 2008Rating: 1 out of 10 (Abysmal)
Pros: Don't buy it
Cons: Technically defective product
Opinion:
Within 3 months of purchasing TOSHIBA Portege M600 Notebook from HCL (under 3 year extended global warranty for which extra money is paid), inner layer of LCD screen broken while doing usual work, without any mishandling.
When I contacted service centre of TOSHIBA at JAIPUR (HCL Infosystems Ltd), they asked to pay Rs. 26,000/- towards cost of replacing LCD. I contacted HCL and TOSHIBA, requested for technical investigation of notebook to find the cause of damage (LCD screen may be broken by technical defects also).
HCL concluded the matter saying " FOC replacement is subject to approval of TOSHIBA". Toshiba concluded the matter saying “mishandling as cause of damage without any technical investigation of notebook". Toshiba is not interested to find out the cause of damage as they are prejudice because it's technically defective product.
Now, I have to move Consumer court to seek justice.
Worst pile of rubbish ever purchased

Pros: silver painted keyboard
Cons: terrible battery life, useless webcam, worst keyboard ever used
Opinion:
I guess the guy who wrote the previous review just saw notebook in the store but never used it.
Well I had bad luck for falling for Toshiba Portege line reputation, which once (long ago) used to be the best notebooks out there.
Well this one is a lemon. Whatever they advertise it as, it doesn't deliver.
I find it amazing that Toshiba brings out a notebook that with maximum power saving battery management achieves a staggering 1 hour and 45 minutes of autonomy.
For that all important video conferences you'll be happy to hear, that most of the time webcam won't cooperate and you'll be enjoying all these "video device error" messages, and if you actually manage to bring it to work, you'll be absolutely stunned by it's noisy, dark, nearly unrecognizable image. If you don't know what I mean, take your TV, turn the brightness to nearly zero, then unplug the antenna... you'll ... Read more
