The good: Competitively priced; strong security features; spill-proof keyboard; plays music and video discs without booting into Windows; good battery life.

The bad: Non-swappable optical drive bay; missing S-video port; ExpressCard slot not available; no Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

The bottom line: Despite a few flaws, the Toshiba Portege M500 is a competent performer with strong security features. The competitive pricing is also a major draw for the corporate user with tight purse strings.

almost perfecto

Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: built-in many features, thin and light
Cons: quite expensive, battery life is too short (approx. 2:40")
Opinion:
I am a college student, i live far enough from my campus so i have to get a strength-mobile device (beside PDA's) to full-fill my daily activities. as Toshiba released portege series with core duo processor, I thought they made a mistake (becoz they have released satellite series with core 2 duo processor). and then I heard that portege series with core 2 duo will come in couple of weeks, so i decide to buy this stuff. so far so good (i have used it for 3 months) and no regret at all, only the battery life is too short. and 1 thing I used to say that portege m500 should come with 1 GB of RAM built-in (not 512 MB of RAM) compared with its price.
