In keeping with the times, Fujitsu is offering a refreshed version of the LifeBook S7110--an upgrade from its predecessor under FujitsuÂ’s flagship corporate notebook series. Armed with last seasonÂ’s Intel Core Duo processor and Windows Vista compatibility, the S7110 returns with a vengeance, appearing leaner and meaner this time around.

Upside: The LifeBook S7110 weighs in at a mere 1.8kg (with weight-saver option)-- fairly impressive for a full-featured mainstream notebook as such. The S7110Â’s high-speed performance and array of features are as expected for a notebook of this price range.

The S7110 comes equipped with a full set of connectivity options--Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, infrared and Ethernet. In line with its role as a corporate machine, the machine is also equipped with a biometric fingerprint sensor and Trusted Platform Module chip--the answer to its usersÂ’ security requirements.

The notebookÂ’s simple, conventional matte-black look is set to be a crowd pleaser, appealing especially to corporate flyers. One of the first in FujitsuÂ’s product line to offer Windows Vista compatibility, the LifeBook S7110 will be able to boast of an improved state of security in the Windows operating system. Users can look forward to garnering more protection from WindowsÂ’ usual spate of commonly exploited security vulnerabilities, susceptibility to malware, viruses and such.

Downside: Although the S7110 is a good performer overall for a notebook in its category, users may find it irksome that there is no dedicated volume control on the machine aside from the toggles on the keyboard.

Multimedia users may find the audio quality emanating from the speakers very modest while graphics performance is not at all fantastic, though its active matrix LCD screen is good enough for everyday work.

Outlook:  The Fujitsu LifeBook S7110 is the notebook of choice for those looking for a lightweight, full-featured mainstream notebook. Although its modest graphics and audio performance indicate that it is not the best answer to multimedia and gaming needs stretching beyond the basics, users can still look forward to excellent and quick performance for everyday work and entertainment needs.

However, the budget-conscious may find its price tag of S$3,098 (US$2,200.91) a wee bit steep for there are other notebooks on the market which offer comparative features at a fraction of the price.

Unstable.

Rating: 1 out of 10 (Abysmal)
Pros: DVD writer.
Cons: Unstable. Poor screen resolution. Poor keyboard layout.
Opinion:
I had used IBM and Apple computers all my life. This is the first time I used a Fujitsu and the experience is really terrible. The keyboard layout is unintuitive and the screen resolution is so poor. Who uses a 1024 * 768 screen these days? The last I used it was 5 years ago on my 14" CRT? The computer is so unstable that I had to power down and reboot the computer in the middle of my work. After sometime, the computer refused to boot up. Instead what I got was 3 flashing signs on the LCD panels. Very disappointed with this piece of hardware. I will never use a Fujitsu again.

Very fast

Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Light weight, outstanding internet connection options.
Cons: Plenty of memory expansion, large hard drive.
Opinion:
One the best computer buys in the 14.1 inch range.

Very light weight but has all the power you need for on the road.

Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Can connect to the internet in everyway possible.
Cons: None
Opinion:
This compact laptop will not leave you hangin. Has all the features found on a larger more expensive system. With the ram being able to go to 4GB, you have all the potential power you should ever need.
