it would have been better without the battery problem

Pros: more or less okay performance
Cons: short battery life,poor optical drive performance and extremely slow
Opinion:
i got this laptop just a year back and its performance had been slow but manageable untill recently detered by the battery life(it has stopped charging beyond 45%) and also the optical drive which has stopped working.

It should be enough for a student. Just upgrade the RAM to 2GB and you will get decent performance ...
