User Review for Acer Aspire 6920G (Core 2 Duo T8300 Processor 2.4GHz, 3GB RAM)
2 weeks and loving it...
Aug 27, 2008Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Crisp clear images, good sound output, value for money specs.
Cons: Bloated with trial games, keyboard feel could be better.
Opinion:
After 2 weeks with my 6920G, i don't have much complains. It does everything its suppose to without hiccups. The design on the inside seems well thought out, with a "hold" touch senstive key to disable the CineDash Media Console to avoid accidental touches, there also one for the touchpad on the keyboard. Sound comes out loud and clear unlike alot of other notebooks i've tried. As with all notebooks, there is no true desktop replacement if you're gaming. But having said that, this comes close if you're not too hardcore with your gaming choices that requires a gazillion amount of processing power and graphics speed and memory. I've been running C&C3 Tiberium Wars and Sins of a Solar Empire without any problems. Of course, don't set everything to the highest configuration possible, you're just asking for it.
The laptop came without a Recovery CD, which i always felt was better. They do however prompt you to burn a factory default DVD or DVDs, really. It said 2 DVDs but i ended up using 3 DVDs for "factory defaults", that's huge! It ended up using only just a bit of the third DVD. It came loaded with tons of Acer games nicely packaged into Acer GameZone Console UI, but... only 60mins trial on all of them, and each taking up 10MB to 60MB of space. It's a waste of space when its only trial. You also get 60 days of Microsoft Office 2007 and Mcafee Internet Security 2008 pre-installed.
If you're looking for a laptop that's good at balancing surfing, word processing, playing movies and reasonable gaming it is this one. With all laptops, there are compromises in hardware specs. Some specs are always better on another notebook, but something is always given up for it. For instance, a higher end Processor on one with more RAM but doesn't come with a dedicated graphics card, or one with a dedicated graphics card but compromised processor and RAM. The Acer Aspire 6920G-833G32Mn (CNET Reviewed Model) is a good compromise on all ends for its price, unless you can afford the higher end 8920G.
Compare the specs around with other notebooks, you're not going to find alot of them out there with a 16" Full HD 1080P 16:9 screens with 3GB of RAM , up to 1791MB of combined dedicated and shared graphics memory on a NVIDIA 9500M GS, 320GB HDD and all the wireless connection you'll need and then some, for a measly $2398, and i bet it will drop soon with the upcoming Comex show or Christmas season.
And lastly, no, i do not work for Acer or its affiliates, and have not been paid in any way for this review. :) Hope this helped you with your decision.
