User Review for Sony Vaio VGN-CR35G (Core 2 Duo T8100 Processor 2.1GHz, 2GB RAM)
The best notebook I've ever had...
Mar 7, 2008Rating: 10 out of 10 (Perfect)
Pros: Awesome screen, top-of-the-line Penryn microprocessor with an equally capable ATI Radeon chipset.. perfect keyboard feel and layout...
Cons: Nothing, absolutely nothing...
Opinion:
First, let me upfront say I got this Vaio for about US$2k, hence it's definitely not cheap. But is it worth the money? YESSSSS!
To start with, it uses the latest Intel Core 2 Duo (Penryn), T8100. It's more energy efficient and cooler. It is also slightly faster than the latest Merom Core 2 Duo. Note that Penryn is Intel's first 45 nanometer microprocesor and is an entirely redesigned architecture.
I start appreciating Penryn with my Vaio's 2GB RAM. There is absolutely no gating factor to speed. I have tried running iTunes, some Office 07 applications, ripped videos, while surfing the net and there is zero glitch. Better yet, this laptop looks gorgeous, an eye candy. The clean keyboard design gives Apple a run for its money!
I have not tried the battery life, though it tells me 4 hours... Penryn is supposed to eat less power than the already efficienct Merom.
The screen is another one of its great assets - colors are realistic, soothing to the eyes. The build quality is superb overall, the metal framing the surrounds the black keyboard and red top gives it a feeling of class and rigidity.
A very good buy, with a technology that tells me I may not have to replace it for the next 24-36 months :-)
