First Take
When it hit the scene in mid-2004, the Archos AV420 was ahead of its time. The portable video player could do just about anything. Now that portable video is on everyone's minds these days, we can truly appreciate the AV500 Mobile DVR, Archos's latest PVP gem. Available in 30GB or 100GB capacities, the AV500 adds a gorgeous wide-screen display and compatibility with protected Windows Media audio and video content to its long list of features.

Good Product...
Dec 28, 2005Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: 4" Screen, Record directly from Tv, Digital Mini Cam...
Cons: Expensive, Mini Cam can only record Video[No taking of pictures], No FM radio...
Opinion:
As compared to other video player, it seemed much better[$900]. Creative Zen Vision:M, also 30GB, but much more cheaper[$600]. No 4" Screen, record directly from Tv.Anyway, given it's price, the FM Radio & Remote Control should be included.
Lastly, it's one of the best product for the moment. Can consider to pick one up if U can afford.

To me, this is the best pmp out there... Great pics, music and vids along with tons of accessories and options! For the cons - like video formatting, no kickstand, equalizer, and no multitasking... i say no worries. Kick stand u can get a case with one
multitasking. Is it that necessary? Bideo fomatting get a program and equalizers. Well, not that important and u can do it from your comp with iTunes. Screen is beautiful and the player itself as well... I would really like to know if there is anything better out there that plays music (most important to me), plays videos and displays pics... with a nice screen and as compact and versatile as this machine? Please respond. Thanks a lot!Taylor (sry for spelling... doing this review late, fast, and instead of work :P)
The only thing better is the 100GB model!

I decided to get the Archos AV500 above the Creative Zen Vision with no regrets. This is after several days of online research and a couple of hours fiddling with both devices. My original experience with a PMP is a Rollei. AV500's user interface is virtually idiot-proof and the device syncs effortlessly with Windows Media Player 10.
The plus above the Zen Vision is its ability to record directly from a video source, e.g. cable TV box set, VCR, etc. This is thanks to the included TV Pod module. The S$200 price difference when compared to Creative's offering is well worth the money. One essential missing component which would have gotten this rated 9/10 is FM radio reception (DAB would have gotten it 10/10).
One more thing. Archos' track record with PMP devices (several product lines and generations) gave me added reassurance that it will continually provide bug fixes and firmware updates. Mr Sim Wong Hoo's recent comments about focusing ... Read more
