Speakers: The weird and the wonderful

By Edvarcl Heng, CNET Asia

Speakers make a wonderful complement to your MP3 player. Besides having something loud to say, a quirky speaker also talks volumes about your sense of style and personality. Our home A/V man would probably say nay to anything less than a 7.1 setup. But for normal people like us, ugly black boxes simply wouldn't do. It's all funk for us.

Too cute: Hello Kitty iPod kitsch

The cat with the salutation fetish is back and it's aiming to lay claim to your iPod as well. After leaving manufacturers from industries like the automotive (Hello Kitty car) and the safety (Hello Kitty extinguisher) quaking in her wake, this meow-meow is hell-bent on taking down your iPod dock as well.
Dunhill iPod Hi-Fi: Chic in alligator hide

Even if the love of your life already has everything iPod, he may still crave this. This alligator-clad iPod Hi-Fi has his name written on it, especially if he is the excessive type.
Creative speakers: Speak up, we can't hear yer

From the looks of it, lots of people are making speaker docks for the iPod and precious few are devoting design resources to Creative's Zen players. So the Singapore-based manufacturer has decided to go full hog with a range of decidedly delicious speakers.
What a fine pair of speaking oinkers… well, snort of

Oink lang syne? We'd like to think that this piggy speakers would have the chops for it. Available in either pink or white and able to snort at 2.1-channel output, we are all ready to bring this little pig home.
Weird speakers: So can you walk the talk?

Just because one's born with feet doesn’t automatically qualify one for kickass status. With only a 3W output, these guys looks ready to walk the plank, decibel-wise.
Those Furgle speaker twins

Furry, sweet and undeniably cute, we suspect the Furgles could very well be distant cousins of the Furby. Definitely speakers with an adorable difference, the Furgle is fully battery powered and compatible with electronic devices with a 2.5mm audio jack. US$24.99 a cutie pair.
Don’t roast these: iPod peanut speakers

Pay peanuts and you get monkeys. Same goes for these nutty speakers. For a fair bit of chump change (US$30), you get a pair of too-tiny speakers shaped like a peanut. Useful? Well, that depends on how acute your hearing is.
MUJI takeout music

If MUJI had made this back then, we could have saved a few ice-cream sticks by not having to pay someone to entertain us with a cardboard trumpet.
