User Review for Creative Zen (32GB)
Adequate Player With Long Lasting Battery
Apr 16, 2008Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Long Lasting Battery Life
Cons: Configuration of Buttons, Creative's Tech Support
Opinion:
The player follows the basic specs of every Creative player made within 1 year. Software is easy to understand and pick up for even a novice at Creative MP3 products. New users won't need to refer to the manuals included with the player if they are remotely tech-savvy - which is ideal as the interface of the software included explains all.
For people who don't use a remote to control their device while traveling, they might find the four-way control (for volume control and etc) square annoying as there's nothing to indicate which way they're actually pressing... until they pressed the wrong side. People who have bought Creative Silicon skins should know that the surface is entirely flat. Raised indentations (even just plain slightly raised circular bumps on the Creative Skins offered) would be a great improvement. This insight came after my remote died on me, btw.
I also had problems adding tracks when I first got my order thru postal order via their Online eShop in Singapore. Some tracks actually got corrupted and I subsequently had to re-format the entire player on the first day. No problems with the player so far after the re-format though. At least they thought to include the reformat option in the software.
One thing I do like about this player is that it has yet to freeze in the middle of a song like my Vision M or Vision W is wont to do at certain times. Creative technical support suggests that I re-format the players every time this happens, but that's hardly the answer people like or want to hear because it's not a solution.
Also, the player died without warning 5 days after I bought it and sent me into a panic, because it refused to reboot no matter what I did (reset, manual on/off, etc). I brought it to Creative at International Business Park, Singapore, with the intention of demanding a refund if their tech support couldn't get the player working. Luckily, the player managed to boot for them. No problems since.
Overall experience of 3 months after the post-sales period of 1 week after buying the player has been positive, with the exception of interactions with their technical support department by e-mail.
