Three new Nokias were announced earlier today and the
5700 XpressMusic steals the limelight with its dedicated audio chip for enhanced music performance. Like the earlier
3250 XpressMusic, the 5700 also comes with a swivel base that the user can flick to switch between the music player, a 2-megapixel camera, video calls and ultimately using the handset as a smart phone.
The 3G-enabled 5700 XpressMusic runs on the S60 platform. It brings Windows Media Player Digital Rights Management (WMDRM) to people who buy their music online, with support for the WMA, MP3, AAAC, eAAC+ and MP4 formats. Onboard memory is limited to approximately 35MB, but the 5700 comes with a microSD card slot for storing up to 1,500 songs on a 2GB media. As a music player, the XpressMusic series is capable of playing up to 10 hours of non-stop music and you can use either your 3.5mm headset or stream tunes via A2DP.
More mundane is the
Nokia 5070 targeted at the younger crowd. What's interesting, though, is the option to send quick voice messages with the Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging feature. When you're not texting away, you can listen to FM radio or have a go at Sudoku.
The third offering for the day is a CDMA model, the Nokia 7088, with a very basic feature set but which looks stylish enough so you would actually carry it out.
Both the 5700 XpressMusic and the 5070 are expected to be available in Asia Pacific come April. Nokia cannot confirm if the 7088 will be launched in Asia's selected CDMA markets at press time.
