Close to Perfection
May 20, 2009Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: excellent camera module, compact design
Cons: loudspeaker and MP3 player volume
Opinion:
After a good year and lots of great photos with the LG KU990 Viewty, I was excited to upgrade to the Renoir and jumped on it when it finally arrived in china last month. What I did not know, and in hindsight, would probably have been a deal-breaker, is that there is a 'dumbed down' version of the KC910 Renoir being sold in China, and perhaps elsewhere, which carries the model designation KC910e. The 'e' must stand for economy, as it has neither wi-fi nor 3G :-(
Based on what I have learned about the issue, China mobile service providers demand that wi-fi be removed from all mobile phones sold in mainland China - in order to make more money on their mobile service contracts I guess - i.e., they don't want people using free wi-fi hotspots - How GREEDY is that for a business model? Imho, it will backfire, as I will NEVER upgrade ... Read more

LG gives the big boys a run for the money!
Jan 28, 2009Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: touchscreen works perfect, 8MP camera, wifi is easy to use, dolby sound, loads of other features
Cons: sluggish - gets more suggish as you upload more data, not much software/game support available
Opinion:
LG finally comes out with a phone that would give a tough competition to the bigger established names out there.
for starters, one does need to get mentally prepared to go for an LG (I have been using Samsung/ SE models till date)
having taken the plunge, you would notice a phone that has it all - a great touchscreen, 8MP camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, dolby sound, clear FM reception, etc.
For variety seekers, the handwriting recognition software for sms works well too..
On the downside, the menu response gets sluggishs as you start filling up the memory card. I have just one-quarter filled up and can already notice a delay (a second or two) in the normal menu. While loading pictures / songs from memory card, the delay is longer.
Battery life is standard. Camera rocks! I have some picutres in the night mode and they aer better than a standard digital camera.
