Beware of HTC After-Sales Support
Apr 22, 2009Rating: 1 out of 10 (Abysmal)
Pros: Better functionality than previous Dopods/HTC
Cons: Shock at repair cost quoted
Opinion:
I have been a loyal Dopod/HTC user for some years. My wife and I have used abt 3-4 different models between us.
I had the Tytn II for about 16 mths when I had a 'Missing SIM Card error' quite unexpectedly. After checking in for an assessment, was informed that it was a motherboard issue and the repair cost would come up to S$700-750! With the money, I might as well get a new phone.
This is the 1st time I've come across a product which didn't last the full 2 yr contract and have used a number of brands. I must say I'm now pretty disappointed with the HTC experience. The customer service centre didn't give us much of a choice. I told the CSO to forget it and return the phone back to me, which I then incurred a S$40+ charge (which I'm aware of).

Abysmal Rating only for Slider Function. Slide cable failed after 14mths normal use.
Feb 19, 2009Rating: 1 out of 10 (Abysmal)
Pros: Otherwise it's an excellent pda phone, just don't slide it too often.
Cons: Short reliability of slider cable
Opinion:
After 14mths of normal use, the screen went white and no touch function. Symptoms began with "No SIM Card" and micro SD card cannot detect.
There was also a clicking sound when sliding (no clicking sound when new).
SIS Technologies (HTC authorized repair agent) found broken "Rigidflex" cable, part nr 51H10051-00M.
Cost S$97.00 for the cable. SIS waived the labour of S$42.80 but could not waive the part cost.
I have pictures of the very expensive broken cable.
SIS staff said will try to appeal higher up but this seems to be not happenning.
Hope this rating will get HTCs attention and improve on the cable reliability.
Nearly There....
Nov 5, 2008Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Dual camera (front & back), Latest version MapKing preinstalled with free registration for 1 map, Good home screen interface, Full QWERTY keypad, nice camera (3MP CMOS color camera with auto focus on the back), Finger scrolling and panning, 3-way Jog Wheel
Cons: Awkwardly place buttons (placed near to the screen when screen is tilted), No maps of east Malaysia, Very bad phone reception
Opinion:
Overall, I'm satisfied with it. I gave it a 7 due to its good interface, slid out QWERTY keypad, tilted screen option and the preinstalled programs. Camera is good but lacking a flash but itÂ’s still ok. I've also read the petition on XDA developers about the QUALCOMM MSM7200 processor which HTC says, is "supposedly" fast. My real and only beef with this gadget is reception. ITÂ’S REALLY BAD! IÂ’m online nearly 70% of the day and I lose data connection half of the time. At first I was blaming the coverage of my network but I began to lose reception even going into a lift or a staircase. My Nokia 6100 gets better reception than this one! The constant reconnection of the data really drains the battery.
The Best PDA phone ever...
Aug 20, 2008Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Great GPS Programme Using Mapking. Speaker Loud and Clear while the Mic is sensitive. Built-in camera is clear (3 Mega Pixel). Light Indicators to show Cap mode and Fn mode on Qwerty Keyboard. MSN Messenger available.
Cons: Short battery life is GPS is utilised (2 - 3 days once GPS is activated for long sessions. Bulky (but that's what you expect from SMART phones)
Opinion:
I used to use its predecessor cousin. I find this Tytn II so much more affordable and reliable. It was really money well-spent. I have not regretted one single bit of my decision in spending that $500 ++ to purchase this phone.
dont look any further
