If previous iterations of Nokia's 8800 Sirocco in black and silver didn't do it for you, the Finns have upped the luxury quotient by releasing it now in 18-carat gold. Yes, that's real bling, even if it's just plated and even if some of us prefer to wear our gold.

When we received the Sirocco Gold unit for review, our biggest concern was that this would be one fugly piece of fashion bling. Others have gone down that route and come out more eye sore than eye candy. Fortunately for Nokia, its golden child manages to carry it off with understated elegance, as befits the Sirocco pedigree of craftsmanship.

The Sirocco Gold gets a tattoo on its back.
What's different from the earlier editions? Lots where it hurts, like a S$1,888 (US$1,368.22) sticker that's S$500 (US$362.35) above the launch price of its less precious siblings. There's also an "8800 Sirocco Gold" tattooed into the back plate, the leather cover now in a calf tan and a default analog clock screensaver. Otherwise, the features remain much the same, and it ultimately boils down to preference.
