When Motorola's bandung (a pink Malay drink) RAZR arrived via courier in our Labs, it wasn't only the female staff who went gaga over it. Instead, our testosterone-driven reviewers were pledging to trade their mums for a feel of this colored blade-like phone, while at the same time swearing that they were just "looking" to check its worth as a matching pink set for their significant halves.

Such is the power of the US company's RAZR series that one cast in a hue that once would have sent even the most limp-wristed meterosexual male fleeing the opposite direction, is now fodder for this side of the gender equation seeking to please their wives/girls/miscellaneous other. In fact, it won't be too great a surprise to find the pink RAZR in the hands of a guy.

So what's the allure here? Who knows? We've never seen hysteria on such a scale toward a phone that vies with Hello Kitty's wardrobe colors, save for it being in a shade screamingly loud enough to have all eyes on you when you flip out this RAZR. If anything, it may have been this rising clamor which saw Motorola affect a change of heart from initially not shipping the pink version into Singapore.

For those far more interested in the technical aspects that make more sense, you can click through to the V3 review . But for those still here with us on this page, be warned. Scratches show up far more clearly on a metallic pink housing. This RAZR is also not entirely coated in pink; the insides and hinge retain their metallic gun color.

A quick check of the menu also doesn't reveal any bonuses such as a pink calendar or even pink wallpapers to tie in with the whole Pretty in Pink presentation.

That said, design is everything with this see-and-be-seen phone. Just half-an-inch thin and made of anodized aluminum, it's based on the RAZR V3's tried-and-tested form factor and build. So you won't hear any gripes there. If what you want is a solid RAZR, then its black, silver and upcoming renditions should still make a bold statement while blending in with the executive crowd. But if you lead a Jekyll and Hyde lifestyle where you like to let down your hair after hours, then the Special Edition Pink RAZR is definitely it.

The only catch: Motorola is still keeping mum about its street price. Will the mobile phone maker retail the phone at the V3's launch price of S$1,200 (US$789.47) or current S$548 (US$360.53)-plus without line? Guess y'all have to wait till the pink RAZR ships some time end-year to Q1 of next year.
