Slated for release in the fourth quarter of the year, the new dual band cellphone, Nokia 3310, has a more slender form than its predecessor, Nokia 3210. Its new, real-time chatroom function sends and receives messages via SMS. Bundled with the new Chinese “Wubi?input system and you have a telecommunications device that communicates not only via sound.
SMS Chat
The new inbuilt real-time chat function via SMS is one of its greatest features. Sending short messages via Nokia 3310 means the receiving party may receive messages in English or Chinese not exceeding 201 Chinese characters or 460 English letters in all. The sender’s name is also displayed instead of the usual numeric display--all very clear and easy. Nokia 3310 also displays messages of both sender and receiver in “ICQ-style? showing each message with its reply, certainly a more convenient and direct way of communicating, as compared to the past when each SMS could only be saved and sent as individual messages. However, the current chat feature does not support multi-chat via SMS, which is rather a pity.
Nokia 3310 also provides 10 useful and interesting templates in two categories, which include commonly used text messages such as “Please return call? or simple e-expressions such as “smiley?( :-), saving users the hassle of having to key these in each time this is required. For those who wish to put their imaginative and creative powers to use, they may come up with a maximum of three original designs for each category.
Screensavers To Save The Day
Another interesting feature of Nokia 3310 is its new screensaver function. Like PC screensavers, Nokia 3310’s animated screensaver appears each time the cellphone stays idle for more than its preset idle time. What appears is an animation of a cartoon figure that behaves accordingly to preset settings of the phone when it is in audio or vibration mode. New games such as Bantumi and Space Impact are also added.
Change The Casings As And When You Wish
Slender and light, Nokia 3310 may have more youthful appeal than the Nokia 3210. Targeted at youngsters, Nokia 3310 has its front casing and end casing designed for change as often as one likes. There are seven colors to choose from, each to suit a different personality. Ringtones may be recorded in the same way as before as with Nokia 3210. There is yet another pleasing improvement. With Nokia 3310, one may record as many as seven ringtones to the cellphone, whereas with Nokia 3210, one can only record one original ringtone. Another added feature is the calculator.
According to Nokia, the price of the 3310 will be confirmed at a later date.
