The bad: Lack of Wi-Fi; Xenon flash isn't as bright as we expected.
The bottom line: This chunky mobile snapper is an attractive slider phone that, although large, is easy to hold and use. The G800's camera comes with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a standalone digital camera, but it's not a complete replacement just yet.

A good attempt from Samsung to join the Big 5(MP) league, but still a few steps away
Apr 16, 2008Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: 5 MP Camera,Sleek and futuristic design.Large text and clear display a bonus
Cons: Underpowered Xenon Flash,Camera options rather limited,Audio output(except Radio) rather soft.Samsung PC Studio rather glitchy
Opinion:
Samsung has done a relatively good job trying to enter the Big 5(MP) league with the Samsung SGH-G800.However,the G800 still have a few steps from being a distinguished Big 5 member,as some of the features are still not top-notch as compared with the big players such as the premium-priced Nokia N95 and the Sony Ericsson K950i
I think i'll list out the bad points here because all the good ones are essentially the same as the review on the 2nd tab above.
The slider for instance,im not sure if it's my set but if u open it at max speed retracting it would take a little more strength since its not very smooth. The problem is not present if u open it in normal speed.]
The Camera flash is rather underpowered, and i put the range around 1.5m or so.More than that it would get dark if u shoot low lighting areas.More for close up shots and portraits in ... Read more
My best Phone yet.
Mar 21, 2008Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Fast and responsive interface and software. Large text. Clear display. Great camera.
Cons: Camera slider tends to open accidentally too often. Size needs getting used to.
Opinion:
I dropped my Samsung D-910 once too many so needed a replacement. My wife came home with this G-800 and I'm glad she did. At first sight I was unhappy because of its' size but once I began using the phone I found the large size to be a plus: easy to hold, handle, type text and numbers and doesn't get dropped when I forget I have it in my hand. The interface is very fast, the fasted I've seen on a phone. Voice quality is excellent however the ringtone, speaker phone and music player applications could be louder.
Camera of course is top quality and the photos very good. Simply put, this is my best phone ever.

post mortem re: Samsung 800
Long story short; the camera was defective. Or, more likely, the USB cable was defective. Roughly half of the photos I uploaded to a PC were full of lines and horrible discoloration. The borders between photos also overlapped - it was basically a disaster, although I must say that the photos that came through without the glitch - looked really good. At first I thought the PC might be to blame, so I immediately switched to another. Same problem. Lines thorugh half od the photos. Then I thought it might be a defective USB cable, so I tried to buy a replacement - even went to the main Samsung Service Center at MBK - sorry 'no have' USB cable was the reply. With the 7 day return policy looming, I decided to trade it in for an LG KU 990 Viewty. ... Read more
