CNET Asia Review
6.7

The bad: Buttons are tiny; very basic feature set.
The bottom line: The Sony Ericsson S500i is a very basic slider phone and you'll be buying it almost mainly for its unique themes and fancy lighting at the sides.

LOVIN IT!!
Mar 20, 2008Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Awesome Sound Quality for Music, Simple to Use, Great Style!
Cons: Keypads Cracks!!
Opinion:
Overall, even though the keypads cracked, it still does not take away the awesome music sound quality on loud speaker and great software it has.
- Menus are easy to scroll through and choose.
- Music plays beautifully on earphones and loudspeaker.
- Messaging is simple and easy.
- Memory space is a lot and memory usage easy to transfer.
- Works a lot better than the W580i!
Ideal phone for the youth especially for the ladies
Nov 26, 2007Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: everything except the keypad
Cons: cracking keypad
Opinion:
This phone is all about bling. Tailor made for the youth, it is sure to make heads turn. With little or no negatives, it is sure to be the next big thing!!
Looks and Build Quality:
While the build quality can be a matter of concern over a period of time, the looks are simply astonishing. Can’t think of another phone that can match the looks of the S500i. Since the phone is supposedly ‘inspired by nature’, SE has taken extreme efforts to make this phone special. The phone flaunts some flashy lights at the sides, a la 3220, except that they look much more classy! The phone comes to life during an incoming call. You have a default theme which changes according to the time of the day and the current season. I’ll be writing a special post on it soon. I’ve bought the phone amidst speculations that the aluminium keys crack on use!! But I’ve had ... Read more

Oct 11, 2007Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Kool design, slim, great audio, display and battery life
Cons: Poor keys, but SE are rectifying (Chemical reaction between resin & paint)
Opinion:
Pity about boo boo with keypad, otherwise I would give this excellent slider 10/10.
Amazing value in Oz. $199 and prepaid from that man Richard Branson (Virgin Team). Coming soon, should be available towards end of October 2007 in Australia.
